The Snow Moon
The Snow Moon is a special night, which is viewed as Sacred by many. The Native Americans are credited with giving February’s Esbat the name Snow Moon.
At this time of year, the Earth is normally blanketed in snow. A brightly glowing Full Moon in the sky above this reflective canvas of snow created a beautiful luminosity that the Native Americans believed to be Holy. For them, this is a day of meditation, a time for introspection and reflection upon the serene tranquility illuminated by the glowing Snow Moon. Spirit guides commonly manifest in the day to lead us across inner landscapes that we have not yet traversed.
In Hinduism, today marks Purnima, a day when the Full Moon’s radiance carries Blessings to the Earth and its inhabitants. People practice fasting today in order to cleanse the body and prepare the mind and soul to receive enlightenment. Prayers that are made beneath the Full Moon are looked upon with favor. Those who stand in reflection or meditation in the rays of the Snow Moon, a practice called a Moon shower, are considered to be cleansed and blessed. Today, we should give offerings that are pleasing to the Spirits of the Full Moon. It is important the we be generous today, donating to the less fortunate and reaping Karmic rewards. Most important, one should meditate upon the Full Moon and upon the Blessings bestowed by all that She represents.
Universal Divinity Ministry wishes everyone a Blessed Esbat, an enlightening Purnima, a tranquil and serene Snow Moon, and a wonderful night.
Blessed, be thou.
Rain of Moonbeams
Like rain, the rays of Moonlight fall,
To carry Blessings to us All,
The Snowy Moon in glowing white,
Reveals the hidden to our sight,
Showing what the night obscures,
That in the darkness, Light endures,
So drink deep of that cleansing rain,
And rise anew, soul born again.
